Love to take a moment and mention the passing of one my closest friends, Dr. Charles Hebert. I Just got back from his funeral. He was on the ministry staff at Prestonwood Baptist Church (Plano, TX).
Charles passed recently after a year grappling with brain cancer and complications. Last year Beverly invited Charles and his wife to my surprise birthday dinner. It wasn’t one month later he started his year long grappling session.

Pastoral care specialist.
No one could drive urban streets like pastor Charles!
I met Charles at New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary in 1987. I was a Yankee and he was so, so southern. He was a groomsman at Beverly and my wedding.
One of our most brilliant efforts was when he taught me how to drive a manual (stick shift). Not a big thing you say? Part of his pedagogy was driving us through one of the most unstable sections of New Orleans where stalling the auto got you a failing grade. OK, we were young idiots! But a great memory. I will miss him.
I am sad for the loss. The loss of a friend and the loss of what could have been if given more time…more years.
Takeaway 1 : Love your friends while you can. If you think about them, tell them.
Takeaway 2 : Live life like a eulogy.

Ironmen? You bet!
Frank nearly sank in the seminary pool.
Charles nearly wrecked my bike.
I was so poor I probably wore no underwear!
